The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has been honoured with the Award of Excellence by the Nigerian Institute of Physics in recognition of his exceptional leadership, professional achievements, and contributions to national security and technological advancement.
The award was presented during the 47th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Physics held at Lead City University under the theme, “Smart Physics: A New Perspective for Technological Advancement.”The conference brought together leading physicists, researchers, academics, government officials, and industry stakeholders to discuss the role of science and innovation in national development.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Physics, Professor Joseph Coker, described the appointment of Air Marshal Aneke as the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff as a reflection of competence, professionalism, and intellectual excellence.Professor Coker noted that the CAS, who studied Physics at the Nigerian Defence Academy, has consistently applied analytical thinking and scientific principles in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

He also commended the Air Chief’s transformational leadership in the fight against insecurity while emphasizing the importance of physics and technological innovation in driving sustainable national growth.
Represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Air Marshal Aneke expressed appreciation to the Institute for the recognition.According to him, the award highlights the enduring relevance of physics as a discipline that promotes precision, logical reasoning, and truth-driven decision-making in leadership and military operations.
The CAS further stated that the Nigerian Air Force continues to apply scientific principles such as aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism to strengthen operational efficiency and protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
The conference also featured the conferment of fellowships on distinguished members of the Institute as well as a keynote lecture delivered by Professor Uzodinma Chukwuma of Olabisi Onabanjo University.
