Obajana, Kogi State — The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, mni, has called on passengers to be more vigilant and courageous in cautioning or reporting drivers who engage in reckless behaviour on the road.

His appeal followed a fatal night crash that claimed 10 lives and injured 11 others along the Obajana–Lokoja route, near Apamaru, on Friday, 10th October 2025, at about 11:30 p.m.

This was contained in a statement signed by Signed Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal / Corps Public Education Officer FRSC Headquarters, Abuja cpeo@frsc.gov.ng | info@frsc.gov.ng on the 11 October 2025

According to the FRSC investigation team, the accident involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number KTG 100YL, which was conveying 21 male passengers at the time of the incident.

Preliminary findings revealed that speed violation and wrongful overtaking by the driver led to a loss of control, resulting in the fatal crash.

Out of the 21 passengers, 10 died on the spot, while 11 sustained varying degrees of injuries, including fractures, deep cuts, and bruises. The injured victims were taken to Fisayo Hospital, Obajana, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families for burial according to Islamic rites at Sarikin Hausawa, Obajana.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, the Corps Marshal condemned the continued menace of night travels, excessive speeding, and wrongful overtaking, describing them as major contributors to avoidable deaths on Nigerian roads.

“Passengers must understand that silence in the face of recklessness is complicity in tragedy,”
the Corps Marshal warned.
“Speak out or report drivers whose actions endanger lives. Together, we can stop these needless deaths.”

He assured that the FRSC will intensify enforcement against overloading and night journeys, especially along critical transport corridors nationwide.

The Corps also urged members of the public to embrace a shared sense of responsibility for road safety and to report reckless drivers by dialing the FRSC toll-free number 122, or contacting the nearest FRSC patrol team or any security agency on their route.
