Nigeria has joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 2025 International Project Management Day, with a renewed call for greater professionalism, accountability, and leadership in the nation’s development process.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN), Mr. Henry Mbadiwe, emphasized that the success of Nigeria’s development agenda depends largely on effective project management practices.
“Project management is not just a technical process; it is a key driver of national transformation. When projects succeed, Nigeria succeeds,” Mbadiwe declared.
The CIPMN Registrar-General noted that this year’s global celebration, themed “The Power Trio: Project, Leadership, and Agile,” underscores the synergy between visionary leadership, structured project delivery, and the agility required to adapt in an ever-evolving world.
He revealed that 2025 marks the first time Nigeria is formally observing the International Project Management Day, describing it as a milestone for the country’s professional community and a call to action for both public and private sectors.

“This celebration challenges institutions, project professionals, and policymakers to bridge the gap between structure and flexibility ensuring that leadership decisions translate into impactful project outcomes,” he said.
Mbadiwe further stressed the need to recognize and celebrate men and women who drive sustainable development through sound project management.
“It’s also a moment for governments, institutions, and professionals worldwide to reflect on how project management contributes to economic growth, national development, and social wellbeing,” he added.
He highlighted that the CIPMN’s mandate is to ensure that all projects executed within Nigeria meet both national and international standards of quality, transparency, and sustainability.
“Behind every successful development initiative whether in infrastructure, education, healthcare, or technology there is a well-managed project driven by structure, strategy, and discipline,” he noted.
According to him, strengthening Nigeria’s project management systems is essential to achieving sustainable development. To this end, CIPMN continues to champion professionalism, ethical standards, and institutional accountability across all sectors.
Mbadiwe urged citizens, public institutions, and corporate organizations to appreciate the indispensable role that project management plays in transforming societies.
“Projects are not just about physical structures; they change lives, improve service delivery, and build lasting systems,” he concluded.
The International Project Management Day is celebrated annually on the first Thursday of November to honor project managers and organizations that drive progress through effective project execution.
