The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in collaboration with hybrid forces and other security agencies, have continued to sustain offensive operations across all theatres in the country. These heightened operations are aimed at enhancing security as the rainy season approaches, allowing farmers safe access to their lands to contribute to food production and national food security, as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, the AFN under the leadership of General CG Musa remains resolute in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting its citizens. He emphasized that the AFN is unwavering in its commitment to national security and the welfare of its personnel, declaring that issues of national security are non-negotiable.
“During the week under review, our troops launched several key operations with renewed vigor aimed at combating insurgency, terrorism, and other criminal activities threatening communities. These operations are strategically designed and executed to ensure the safety of our people and the restoration of peace in affected regions. I am pleased to provide an update on the significant progress made in our operations from 8th to 15th May 2025,” General Kangye stated.
Major Successes Recorded:
- Foiling of Oil Theft:
Troops of Operation Delta Safe successfully prevented oil theft valued at over ₦103,909,422. The breakdown includes the recovery of 68,875 litres of stolen crude oil, 31,166 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 2,250 litres of Dual-Purpose Kerosene (DPK). During the operations, they also destroyed 16 crude oil cooking ovens, 31 dugout pits, 19 boats, 34 storage tanks, 79 drums, and 18 illegal refining sites. Additionally, security forces recovered pumping machines, drilling machines, tricycles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and seven vehicles. - Rescue of 17 Kidnapped Victims in Borno:
In a coordinated offensive under Operation Hadin Kai, troops in conjunction with Hybrid Forces launched successful raids in Mafa, Dikwa, Gwoza, and Damboa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Borno State. The operations led to the neutralization of several terrorists and the rescue of 17 kidnapped victims. Arms, ammunition, hand grenades, and extra magazines were also recovered during the engagements. - Neutralization and Arrest of Terrorist Collaborators:
Troops recorded further success with the arrest of two terrorists’ logistics suppliers during well-coordinated operations in Gwoza and Gubio. Intelligence gathered from local communities was instrumental in tracking and apprehending these suspects.
Sustained Efforts for National Security
Major General Kangye assured that troops of AFN will continue their operations nationwide within the ambit of the law, respecting human rights and adhering to global best practices to ensure national security and maintain regional stability. He called on citizens to support security efforts by providing credible information that could enhance operational success.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain focused and determined to defeat terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality across the country. We encourage all law-abiding citizens to go about their daily activities without fear of intimidation. Together, with your support, we shall overcome,” he concluded.
