Troops of the Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with the Police, have thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued three victims along the Garaku–Keffi Road in Nasarawa State.
According to security sources, the incident occurred at about 4:28 a.m. on Friday, August 15, following a distress call from Angwan Mayo community, where suspected kidnappers and armed robbers had mounted a roadblock on the federal highway.
Troops and other security operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene. On arrival, they discovered two vehicles transporting Irish potatoes and pepper abandoned on the road without drivers or passengers. Moments later, two drivers emerged from the nearby bush and reported that kidnappers had seized three passengers.
The troops swiftly advanced into the forest, engaging the criminals with superior firepower. The kidnappers, overwhelmed, abandoned the abducted victims and fled the scene.
The three rescued passengers were safely reunited with their drivers, who later continued their journey to Abuja.
No casualties were recorded during the operation. Security operatives have since intensified surveillance in the area to forestall future attacks.
