Troops of Sector 2, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), have successfully neutralised two armed bandits and recovered a cache of weapons during a special operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to reliable sources, the operation was launched following actionable intelligence which revealed that bandit leaders were distributing arms seized from local vigilantes during an earlier attack in the Odare Forest on July 6.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops set up a tactical ambush along key routes connecting Dutsen Zaki and Odare Forest. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, the troops encountered the armed group. In the ensuing confrontation, two of the bandits were killed while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Further searches of the area led to the recovery of:
One AK-47 rifle
Six AK-47 magazines
27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
One Boxer motorcycle
The recovered weapons and equipment are currently in military custody, as follow-up operations are underway to track down the remaining fleeing bandits.
Security forces continue to urge local communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement as efforts to rid Plateau State of criminal elements intensify.
