Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division, operating under Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), have successfully neutralized three notorious armed bandits during a precision dawn raid on Saturday, 31 May 2025. The operation was conducted along the fringes of Pinau Village in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, following actionable intelligence on the hideout of a violent criminal syndicate.
In a statement released by the Media Information Officer of Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the troops launched a swift assault on the identified location, engaging the armed elements in a brief but intense firefight.
“The superior firepower of our troops overwhelmed the criminals, resulting in the neutralisation of three bandits, while others escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
Blood trails observed along the escape routes suggest that several of the fleeing suspects may have sustained serious injuries. A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and a magazine, now secured as evidence for further investigation.
Major Zhakom noted that clearance and pursuit operations are ongoing to track down the remaining fugitives and restore full security to the area. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining operational pressure on criminal elements across the Joint Operations Area.
“Troops of 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN will build on this momentum to reinforce operational readiness and intensify efforts in eliminating all threats to peace and stability,” he added.
The operation is part of a broader effort by the Nigerian Army and OPSH to dismantle armed groups destabilizing Plateau and neighbouring regions, ensuring the safety of residents and freedom of movement for travellers.
