A fresh wave of political tension has swept through Delta State following revelations that Lawson Ogwa, a known associate of former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, is allegedly behind a false report claiming that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is planning a return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The controversial publication, titled “Delta Drama: Sheriff, Others Plot Return to PDP Amid Secret Talks With Wike”, triggered widespread speculation and unease across the political landscape of the state. However, multiple sources have now dismissed the story as a fabricated smear campaign, allegedly orchestrated to discredit Governor Oborevwori and destabilize his rising profile.
A reliable insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the report as a deliberate political ploy by opponents unsettled by the governor’s growing influence and recent gains in governance.
“It is a calculated media stunt by Omo-Agege’s camp to sow confusion and provoke internal strife within the APC and Delta politics. This is nothing short of propaganda,” the source said.

The source further alleged that Ogwa acted on directives from political figures loyal to Senator Omo-Agege. According to him, the intention was to derail the governor’s momentum and paint him as politically inconsistent ahead of future electoral contests.
Notably, even some top-ranking members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are said to have expressed disapproval over the report. One APC chieftain reportedly rebuked Ogwa, cautioning him against such “reckless political storytelling.”
Governor Oborevwori, who emerged victorious in the contentious 2023 elections under the PDP amid fierce opposition from Omo-Agege, made headlines in April 2025 when he officially defected to the APC—a move celebrated by party leaders and stakeholders both within and outside the state.
“This is a clear case of desperation,” the source added. “Rather than engage constructively, some individuals would rather traffic in lies and blackmail to undermine progress.”
As the political climate in Delta continues to evolve, stakeholders are calling for a focus on governance and development, urging all camps to eschew divisive tactics and allow democracy to thrive.
