In a rare and symbolic show of solidarity, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, paid an unannounced visit to troops of Operation FANSAR YANMA in Katsina State, a region grappling with persistent security challenges.
The President’s visit, devoid of the usual high-ranking military entourage, was aimed at gaining firsthand insight into the realities faced by soldiers on the frontlines. It also served to boost troop morale and signal his administration’s unwavering support for their efforts in combating terrorism, banditry, and other criminal threats in the region.
Addressing the soldiers, Tinubu praised their courage, patriotism, and unflinching dedication to the nation’s security.
“The fight you are waging here in Katsina and across the country is not just a battle for territory; it is a battle for the soul of Nigeria,” he declared. “Nigeria depends on you, and I am with you today, tomorrow, and always.”
Emphasizing the significance of his physical presence, the President described himself not only as Commander-in-Chief but also as a fellow patriot deeply humbled by the sacrifices of the armed forces.
“You are the shield of Nigeria the brave sons and daughters who stand between our people and the forces of terror. Every terrorist you neutralize, every community you secure is a victory for justice and freedom.”
Tinubu acknowledged the personal cost borne by soldiers in service of national peace, describing their selflessness as the “highest form of patriotism.”
“You have left behind your families and the comfort of civilian life not for wealth or recognition, but for the love of our country. You are the silent guardians of our democracy, and I salute you.”
Reassuring the troops of continued support, the President outlined steps being taken to improve their welfare and enhance operational effectiveness. These include investment in modern military technology, improved intelligence capabilities, and upgraded logistical support.
He added that the government is rolling out comprehensive welfare packages, including timely allowances, healthcare access, insurance coverage, housing schemes, and family support initiatives.
“This war will not be won by weapons alone but by your will to stand, resist, fight, and triumph,” he said. “To those who seek to destabilize our country whether domestic collaborators or foreign agents—hear this: Nigeria will not bow. Not to fear. Not to terror. Not to treachery.”
President Tinubu ended his address with a rallying call:
“With your valor and discipline, peace shall prevail. Stand tall. Be proud. Nigeria depends on you, and I am with you today, tomorrow, and always. Stay strong. Stay focused.”
