The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 1.37 million Nigerians have completed their online pre-registration for the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within the first week.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the exercise, which began on Monday, August 18, 2025, has attracted impressive participation across the country.
A breakdown of the figure shows that 1,379,342 Nigerians successfully pre-registered between August 18 and 24, 2025. Of this number, 661,846 (47.96%) are male, while 717,856 (52.04%) are female.
Young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 make up the majority, with 860,286 registrants (62.37%), while students account for 374,534 (27.15%) of the total. INEC also disclosed that 27,089 persons with disabilities (1.96%) have registered so far.
INEC noted that physical registration has commenced nationwide today at its 811 State and Local Government offices, giving citizens the option to either register in person or complete their online applications at designated centres.
The Commission reminded Nigerians that the exercise is strictly for citizens who are at least 18 years old and have not registered before. While transfers of voter registration and replacement of lost or damaged cards are permitted, double or multiple registrations remain illegal.
The CVR will run for one year, until August 30, 2026, but INEC urged eligible citizens not to delay their registration until the final days, when centres are often overcrowded with last-minute applicants.
