The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and the rule of law following the fatal shooting incident in Dada Estate, Osogbo, Osun State, which led to the death of a civilian.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the police acknowledged the public concern surrounding the incident and noted the position of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) regarding the circumstances of the operation.

The police said that while the NCS has statutory responsibilities in anti-smuggling operations, the protection of human life remains paramount.
According to the statement, the Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, has taken note of the customs service’s call for a harmonised investigation into the incident.

The Osun State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is currently leading the investigation, which the police said will be conducted with strict forensic diligence.
Police confirmed that two suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, remain in custody as investigations continue.

Recovered items from the scene including a Beretta pistol with breech number 125024 and 9mm ballistic evidence are currently undergoing specialised forensic analysis to determine compliance with operational rules of engagement.

The police emphasised that the relationship between the NPF and the Nigeria Customs Service remains professional and cooperative, adding that the matter is being treated as an issue of individual professional accountability rather than an institutional conflict.

Authorities also urged the public to avoid sensationalising the incident while investigations continue, stressing that both agencies remain committed to ensuring justice for the deceased.

The Nigeria Police Force further extended condolences to the family of the victim and assured that the investigation would be concluded in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
