In a decisive effort to disrupt terrorist activities and restore peace to Nigeria’s North-East region, gallant troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have uncovered a major cache of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), neutralized several Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, and recovered a significant quantity of weapons and logistics materials in a series of coordinated operations.
This was contained in a statement signed by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai
According to Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the Headquarters Theatre Command, the operations—conducted in key locations across Borno State—mark a major tactical success in ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
Major IED recovery foils potential disaster
During a clearance operation in the Marte-Dikwa axis, troops discovered approximately 60 heavily primed IEDs concealed on a bridge connecting the two towns. The devices, believed to have been planted by insurgents for a planned large-scale attack on critical national infrastructure, were safely recovered and defused—averting what could have been a devastating catastrophe.
Successful patrols yield weapons, ammunition, and arrests
In a separate combat patrol around Fulatari in Gubio Local Government Area, troops apprehended a terrorist fighter and seized an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, and a large cache of ammunition.
Similarly, in Ngala Local Government Area, troops operating around Mussini engaged terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing the insurgents to flee. A follow-up sweep of the area led to the recovery of additional AK-47 rifles, jerrycans of fuel, several motorcycles, and insurgent uniforms, among other items.
More terrorists neutralized in Mafa
Further offensive action in the Salekwa area of Mafa Local Government resulted in the neutralization of several terrorist elements. During exploitation of the area, troops recovered more AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, and the body of a neutralized insurgent.
Sustained momentum and high morale
Captain Kovangiya noted that the success of these operations reflects the high level of determination and professionalism of Nigerian troops, supported by air cover from the Air Component of OPHK and strengthened by inter-agency collaboration. The Military High Command has commended the troops for their courage and effectiveness, affirming its commitment to maintaining the momentum until peace and normalcy are fully restored in the region.
The Armed Forces, in partnership with other security agencies and local stakeholders, continue to work tirelessly to create an environment conducive for safe resettlement and socio-economic recovery across the North-East.
