In a bid to enhance national security and promote road safety, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has pledged its full support to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the fight against the proliferation of fake number plates across the country. This partnership aims to strengthen intelligence gathering, foster inter-agency collaboration, and instill a culture of responsibility among Nigerian youths.
NYCN President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, emphasized that the widespread use of fake number plates poses a serious threat to national security and public safety. He noted that as young leaders, the Council recognizes its role in ensuring a safer society and is committed to working closely with the FRSC to address the issue.
“As part of our commitment, we will educate our members and the general public on the dangers of fake number plates and the importance of obtaining them through authorized channels. We are also open to engaging in joint enforcement operations with the FRSC to curb this menace,” he stated.
Receiving the NYCN delegation at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Hyginus Uche Omeje, who represented the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, welcomed the partnership. He highlighted the FRSC’s ongoing crackdown on fake number plates, stating that the collaboration with NYCN will further strengthen enforcement and public awareness efforts.
“The FRSC has been actively combating the proliferation of fake number plates, and this partnership with NYCN will amplify our efforts. We commend the Council’s dedication to national security through advocacy and sensitization,” Omeje said.
Since the beginning of the year, the FRSC has intensified its enforcement efforts, leading to the arrest and impoundment of approximately 400 vehicles found with fake number plates. The Corps remains committed to ensuring compliance and protecting the integrity of the nation’s vehicle registration system.
