Director General of the National Senior Citizens Centre, Dr Emem Omokaro, was among eminent Nigerians who received the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Annual Good Governance Awards 2025.
Dr Emem Omokaro is the recipient of the Award for “INNOVATIVE LEADERSHIP” in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
She was selected for opening up “The Silver Economy in Nigeria” through boosting the dignity and well-being of Older Persons as well as her transformative programs in the field of aging.

Another awardee at the Good Governance Awards was the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who received the award on Legislative Transformation and Efficiency.
Other awardees are the Niger and Kebbi States Governors, the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, NNPC Limited, the National Bureau of Statistics, and Construction Giant, Julius Berger.
The Good Governance Awards by the Nigeria Union of Journalists highlight leaders and organizations that have turned policies into tangible progress, proving that accountability is not a myth but a measurable standard.
National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, said a free press and accountable governance are inseparable and remain the catalyst for good governance, as good governance ensures that the dividends of democracy reach every citizen.

He assured that the Nigeria Union of Journalists remains the cornerstone of democracy, allowing citizens to hold leaders accountable and ensure transparency and accountability in public affairs.
Also awarded at the ceremony were courageous journalists who demonstrated exceptional bravery in the face of adversity in the line of duty.
