As the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) concludes its final intensive briefing for a new batch of volunteers heading to the Republic of Benin, the team leader of the group, Mr. Michael Akubo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for the volunteering initiative.
Akubo, a professional basketball coach, expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and the Director-General of NTAC, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, for sustaining the scheme and providing life-changing opportunities for young Nigerian professionals to serve abroad.
According to Akubo, “It takes a great and focused leader to give, especially when there’s not much to spare. President Tinubu is truly a performing President.” He pledged the commitment of his team to uphold excellence and make Nigeria proud during their service.
Delivering the Director-General’s address at the briefing, Mr. Nkem Anyata-Lafia, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, charged the volunteers to be exemplary ambassadors of Nigeria. He emphasized that they are not only serving the host country but also contributing to humanity and national pride.
The DG, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to technical diplomacy, noting that the deployment highlights the country’s commitment to sharing its skilled human resources across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. He called on the volunteers to embody integrity, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity throughout their two-year tenure.
The five volunteers—experts in Agriculture, Nursing, Engineering, Sports, Academics, and Sciences—have undergone extensive orientation and are now prepared for their assignments in various institutions across the Republic of Benin.
Also present at the briefing were key NTAC officials including Mr. Adebowale Fehintola (Assistant Director, Programs), Mrs. Bukola Ejiwale (Ministry, Consular Administration), Mrs. ’Bunmi Ojo (Head, Information/Public Relations), and Mr. Anyata-Lafia, among others.
