Abuja, Nigeria – June 24, 2025 – The Nigerian Navy on Tuesday celebrated the promotion of seven of its officers to the rank of Lieutenant Commander during a formal decoration ceremony held at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
Known in naval tradition as the “Shipping of Stripes,” the event marked a significant milestone in the careers of the newly promoted officers, recognizing their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to national service.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, was represented at the event by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abdullahi Dewu. In his remarks, Rear Admiral Dewu congratulated the officers on their elevation and praised their consistent display of excellence in service.
He also acknowledged the support of their families, noting that the success of military officers is often underpinned by the strength and resilience of their loved ones.
“Today’s ceremony is not only a celebration of individual accomplishments but also a tribute to the families whose unwavering support empowers these officers,” Dewu said. “Promotion comes with higher expectations. As Lieutenant Commanders, you are now charged with even greater responsibility in the Navy’s ongoing mission to secure Nigeria’s maritime domain.”

Lieutenant Deborah Nwaorji
The ceremony drew attendance from senior naval officials, directors, family members, and well-wishers, who joined in celebrating the officers’ achievements.
The event concluded with a group photograph and a brief reception, reinforcing the camaraderie and esprit de corps that define the Nigerian Navy.
