The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Admiralty Medal, has approved the appointment of Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho as the new Director of Naval Information and official spokesperson of the Nigerian Navy.

Captain Folorunsho formally assumed office on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, taking over from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Alu, who served in the role for more than two years. Commodore Adams-Alu has since been redeployed to a higher strategic position as the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, the Service’s premier naval base.

Born on December 27, 1979, in Benin City, Edo State, Captain Folorunsho hails from the family of the late Major Peter Adeboji Folorunsho (rtd) and Mrs. Rukayat Esther Folorunsho. He commenced his primary education at Olua Primary School, Benin City, before proceeding to Army Command Children School, Zaria, where he studied between 1983 and 1990.

He attended the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, from 1991 to 1996, and was admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in 1998 as a member of the 50 Regular Course. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy as a Sub-Lieutenant in September 2003.

Captain Folorunsho holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the NDA. His postgraduate qualifications include a Master of Science degree in War Studies (Maritime) from the National Defence University, Islamabad, Pakistan; a Master of Science degree in International Affairs and Defence Studies from the NDA, Kaduna; a Master of Science degree in Energy Management from the World Maritime University, Malmö, Sweden; and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College, Rhode Island.

He also possesses a Graduate Certificate in Ethics and Emerging Military Technology from the United States Naval War College.
Throughout his distinguished naval career, Captain Folorunsho has attended several local and international professional courses, including the Junior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji; the Senior Staff Course at the Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore; as well as various United Nations staff and peace support operations courses.

His appointment is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to strengthen strategic communication, transparency, and public engagement.
