Abuja, September 15, 2025 – The Federal Ministry of Education has officially rolled out the revised Basic and Senior Secondary School Curricula, following months of extensive consultations across the country.
This was contained in a statement signed by Folasade Boriowo Director, Press and Public Relations Federal Ministry of Education
The statement reads: the review carried out under the National Education Sector Renewal Initiatives (NESRI) and led by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), was a step-by-step process designed to ensure inclusivity, national ownership, and global relevance.
According to the Ministry, the reform combined both competency- and outcome-based approaches, with the goal of equipping learners with the knowledge and skills to thrive in today’s rapidly changing world.
The process began with a needs assessment conducted in 12 states, followed by dialogues across the six geopolitical zones. Stakeholders including learners, teachers, parents, civil society groups, traditional and religious leaders, employers, policymakers, and development partners shared their perspectives. These contributions shaped the new framework, which was ratified at the 68th National Council on Education (NCE) meeting in October 2024.

Curriculum development was carried out in four stages: content selection and standardisation, drafting, critique and refinement, and final editing. Subject specialists, teacher educators, curriculum experts, and industry practitioners all played a role in the exercise.
Since NCE approval, the Ministry has been implementing the new curricula in phases, beginning with pilot schools. Teachers have also undergone nationwide orientation and training delivered both physically and online to ensure effective classroom delivery.
The Ministry emphasised that the revised curricula reflect Nigeria’s development priorities while aligning with international standards. Details of the documents are accessible on the NERDC website: www.nerdc.gov.ng.
“With due diligence observed and all stakeholders carried along, the revised curricula will be implemented seamlessly across schools,” the statement assured. “Learners will be better equipped to succeed and contribute meaningfully to national development.”
