Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has held a landmark virtual meeting with United States Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, to advance bilateral cooperation across key sectors.
According to a statement by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Minister, the discussion covered a broad range of mutual interests, including energy, technology, trade, human capital development, security, religious freedom, and immigration.
Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with the new U.S. administration to achieve shared objectives and strengthen diplomatic ties.
Highlighting Nigeria’s proactive approach to structured migration, Tuggar referenced the Technical Aide Corps (TAC)—a program that deploys skilled Nigerian professionals to developing countries. He noted that such initiatives promote orderly migration and contribute meaningfully to global development.
In his remarks, Deputy Secretary Landau emphasized the United States’ dedication to reinforcing its partnership with Nigeria. He underscored the importance of enhancing trade, expanding security cooperation, and maintaining robust diplomatic engagement.
This meeting marks the first official high-level dialogue between the two nations under the new American administration and sets a positive tone for deepening collaboration on global and regional challenges
