The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria proudly joins the African Union (AU), its member states, and the entire continent in commemorating Africa Day 2025, marking the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union.
In a statement signed on 25th May 2025 by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa Spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja stating that this year’s celebration, themed “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations,” reflects a vital and timely call for historical redress, equity, and dignity. The theme aligns closely with Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to African unity, social justice, and sustainable development.
Africa Day serves as a powerful reminder of the continent’s shared heritage, common struggles, and collective aspirations for a peaceful, integrated, and prosperous Africa. Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria reiterates its full commitment to the AU’s Agenda 2063, which seeks to advance democracy, good governance, youth empowerment, and regional security across the continent.
As a leading voice for African solidarity, Nigeria remains resolute in championing initiatives that strengthen intra-African trade, drive technological innovation, and enhance climate resilience particularly through platforms such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
We commend the notable strides made by African countries in education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. At the same time, we acknowledge that significant challenges remain, including conflict, poverty, and inequality. Nigeria calls for deeper collaboration among African states and stronger partnerships with the global community to address these issues and elevate Africa’s standing on the world stage.
On this occasion, Nigeria celebrates the resilience, creativity, and determination of the African people—especially our dynamic youth, who are the architects of Africa’s future. Let us all, as proud Africans, renew our collective resolve to build a continent that thrives on unity, innovation, and shared prosperity.
