The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on behalf of the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, conveys heartfelt congratulations to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Hon. Professor Amon Murwira, and the good people of Zimbabwe on the celebration of their 45th Independence Anniversary.

According to the statement, the commemoration of Zimbabwe’s independence on 18th April 1980 remains a landmark achievement, symbolizing the resilience, courage, and unwavering determination of the Zimbabwean people in their pursuit of freedom, self-determination, and national progress. Nigeria is particularly proud of its historic role and contributions during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, which culminated in the attainment of independence.

This milestone is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Zimbabwean people, and Nigeria commends the strides Zimbabwe has made over the years in its socio-economic and political development. The Government of Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to further strengthening the long-standing bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two nations.
As active members of the African Union and other multilateral organizations, Nigeria and Zimbabwe continue to share a common vision for a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated Africa. Nigeria remains steadfast in its support for Zimbabwe’s development efforts and looks forward to deepening collaboration in areas of mutual interest such as trade, agriculture, education, and regional security.

On this auspicious occasion, Nigeria extends best wishes of peace, progress, and enduring prosperity to the Government and people of Zimbabwe.
