The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) are reinforcing their partnership to revolutionize the delivery and coordination of emergency response services across the country.
This renewed alliance is focused on leveraging Nigeria’s telecommunications infrastructure—particularly the national 112 emergency number to ensure faster dissemination of critical information and more efficient disaster management. The collaboration aims to provide seamless access to emergency services for Nigerians, irrespective of their location.

To deepen this cooperation, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
During the meeting, Mrs. Umar highlighted the importance of strengthening the communication bridge between both agencies, especially in advancing emergency call systems, promoting disaster risk reduction programs, and scaling up early warning mechanisms.
According to a statement signed by Manzo Ezekiel, Head of NEMA’s Press Unit, the DG praised the NCC’s role in activating and maintaining the 112 emergency number and advocated for improved interoperability between it and NEMA’s own emergency contact platforms. She noted that enhanced integration would ensure that distressed citizens receive timely and coordinated assistance.

In response, Dr. Maida reaffirmed the NCC’s commitment to supporting NEMA’s mission and emphasized the critical role of communication technology in saving lives during crises. He also underscored the need for heightened public awareness on how and when to use emergency numbers effectively.
Both agencies agreed that a well-coordinated communication network is central to minimizing the impact of disasters and reaffirmed their resolve to work closely to improve the resilience of Nigeria’s emergency management system.
