The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illicit drugs, arresting two major kingpins, intercepting narcotics bound for terrorists, and destroying over 24,000kg of cannabis in Edo State forests.
Two suspected drug barons, Victor Nwosa (64) and Felix Chika Obiegbu (49), were arrested in Lagos after the NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit uncovered cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine hidden in their residences. Nwosa was found with 4.33kg of heroin and 448g of cocaine in Okota, while Obiegbu was caught with 2.9kg of methamphetamine in Surulere.
In the North-East, NDLEA operatives foiled attempts to supply illicit substances to bandits. In Borno, Baba Kaka Ibrahim (26) was caught with 39,380 pills of tramadol and exol-5 hidden inside a Mercedes GLK engine, while in Yobe, Halima Adamu was intercepted with 1.4kg of Colorado, leading to the arrest of an accomplice in Maiduguri.
Further operations in Kaduna, Kano, Bayelsa, Lagos, Abuja, Ekiti, and Gombe resulted in additional arrests and seizures, ranging from cannabis to opioids.
In Edo State, NDLEA operatives destroyed 12,115.6kg of cannabis in Uromi forest and 12,031.2kg in Ogu forest, in addition to over 1,000kg of cannabis hidden in a charcoal truck.
Commending his officers, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), said the operations highlight the agency’s determination to disrupt drug networks and safeguard public health.
“Every gram of dangerous drugs we seize is a step towards protecting our youths, dismantling criminal supply chains, and reinforcing national security,” Marwa said.
