The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled six state-of-the-art Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Parks across Nigeria, aimed at accelerating indigenous innovation, promoting digital entrepreneurship, and enhancing socio-economic growth.
Speaking at the official handover of one of the parks to the Federal University of Transport Technology in Daura, Katsina State, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging technology for national development.
“Technology is the leading force behind 21st-century economic progress. For Nigeria, it offers the most promising route to meaningful economic transformation,” Dr. Maida noted.
Each ICT park is fully equipped with high-capacity computers, advanced networking infrastructure, and simulation rooms to support innovation, research, and skill development. The Daura ICT Park, specifically, features five ICT hub halls, a 24-seat laboratory furnished with eight dual computer workstations, a 100-seat conference hall, as well as multiple office spaces and workstations.
Dr. Maida emphasized that the facility is tailored to nurture local technological solutions while complementing academic programs in railway engineering, logistics, and transportation management.
“Our aim is to build an ecosystem where advanced ICT infrastructure fuels research, technical education, and innovation in areas such as rail, marine, and air transport,” he added.
He urged students, researchers, and the wider Daura community to take full advantage of the facility to develop homegrown solutions and contribute to national digital growth.
Expressing gratitude, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Transport Technology, Prof. Umar Katsayal, commended the NCC’s support. He assured that the institution would put the facility to optimal use for research, training, and academic simulations, and pledged to ensure its proper maintenance and security.
