The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), led by its Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, commissioned an e-Health Project at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure — marking a significant milestone in the integration of digital technology into Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Maida reaffirmed the NCC’s commitment to leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve healthcare delivery and drive national development. He described the project as a strategic initiative aligned with the commission’s broader vision to stimulate innovation within Nigeria’s digital economy.
“This e-Health project demonstrates how digital solutions can revolutionize healthcare delivery. A healthier population translates into a more productive nation,” Dr. Maida said.
He noted that the newly deployed e-Health system is designed to streamline clinical processes, facilitate efficient health record management, and enable faster, more accurate diagnoses. According to him, the introduction of advanced digital tools at the hospital is expected to significantly improve patient care and satisfaction.
Dr. Maida also commended the collaborative efforts that made the project possible, appreciating the contributions of technology partners, healthcare professionals, and government stakeholders. He expressed hope that the Akure model would serve as a blueprint for similar e-Health implementations across the country.
“With the successful launch of this project, we are setting a new benchmark in digital healthcare delivery. The NCC remains committed to working with partners to expand the reach and impact of ICT in the health sector and beyond,” he concluded.
The commissioning of the e-Health project is part of NCC’s ongoing efforts to promote digital inclusion and enhance the quality of public service through technological innovation.
