Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has reaffirmed her commitment to visiting her constituency for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, despite the Kogi State Government’s recent ban on rallies and public gatherings.
In a statement released by her media team on Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan dismissed rumors suggesting she had canceled her planned visit. She urged her supporters to disregard the misinformation, assuring them that her visit would proceed as scheduled.
“We are pleased to confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central will go on as planned. No official statement has been issued regarding any cancellation, contrary to the misleading reports circulating online,” the statement read.
The senator reiterated her commitment to engaging with her constituents during the festivities, encouraging them to come out in large numbers to celebrate. She emphasized that the event is an opportunity to promote unity and foster peace within the community.
Her confirmation comes amidst the Kogi State Government’s decision to prohibit public gatherings, citing security concerns. According to the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, intelligence reports indicated that certain individuals were planning to incite violence under the guise of political and religious activities. The government insisted that the ban was a necessary measure to maintain peace, particularly following recent violent incidents in some local government areas that resulted in loss of lives.
Despite these restrictions, Akpoti-Uduaghan assured that all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure a peaceful and successful Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Kogi Central. Her determination to proceed with the visit underscores her resolve to stay connected with her people, even amid political tensions and security challenges.
