In a decisive show of force, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has launched a successful air interdiction mission that dismantled a major terrorist enclave in Bukar Meram, located on the southern edge of the Lake Chad region in Borno State.
The strike, carried out on June 9, 2025, followed credible intelligence indicating that the site served as both a command base and a training camp for insurgents planning imminent attacks on the communities of Marte and Monguno.
According to a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the mission led to the neutralisation of numerous terrorists and the destruction of critical logistical assets, including arms depots, supply trucks, and makeshift shelters.
“Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that the strike effectively disrupted imminent threats posed to the communities of Marte and Monguno,” Ejodame stated. “This reinforces NAF’s proactive posture in safeguarding civilian populations and critical territories.”
The air operation represents another high-impact action in the NAF’s ongoing campaign to degrade insurgent capabilities in Nigeria’s Northeast, where terrorist groups have continued to pose threats to national security and civilian life.
NAF reaffirmed its commitment to upholding Nigeria’s sovereignty and ensuring the protection of all citizens, emphasizing that such operations will continue to neutralize hostile threats before they escalate.
“The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute in its mandate to protect the sovereignty of the nation and ensure lasting peace and security across the Northeast and beyond,” the statement concluded.
Residents of Marte and Monguno, who have long faced the specter of insurgent violence, welcomed news of the operation with relief. Local sources report that the area remains calm, with ground forces maintaining vigilance in the aftermath of the airstrikes.
This latest operation underscores the evolving capability of Nigeria’s air power in counter-terrorism warfare and signals renewed strategic momentum in the country’s long-standing fight against insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin.
