The Nigerian Air Force has carried out a precision air interdiction mission targeting terrorist hideouts in Abirma, located in the southern axis of the Lake Chad region in Borno State, destroying key insurgent structures and disrupting their operational base.
The operation, conducted on March 17, 2026, followed credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) that confirmed the presence of terrorist fighters within concealed locations in the area. Air assets, after thorough verification, executed targeted strikes on structures hidden under dense vegetation, significantly degrading the insurgents’ ability to use the enclave for launching attacks.

In a related development, NAF air components, working in close coordination with ground troops under Operation HADIN KAI, neutralised several insurgents during a failed infiltration attempt at Malam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area in the early hours of March 18, 2026.
The joint operation successfully prevented the attackers from breaching defensive positions, reinforcing ongoing efforts to stabilise border communities and curb insurgent activities in the North-East.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to sustained intelligence-driven operations, noting that missions are conducted with strict adherence to rules of engagement and measures to minimise civilian harm.
