The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, alongside the Minister of State, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has received the newly appointed Director General of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), Hon. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

During the courtesy visit, Prof. Yilwatda congratulated Mrs. Akinyemi-Obe on her appointment and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the Centre toward greater achievements. He emphasized the importance of continuity and innovation, urging the new DG to build on the foundation laid by her predecessor while forging intra- and inter-ministerial collaborations to advance the welfare of Nigeria’s elderly population.

“Our Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hinges on inclusivity and a robust social contract,” the Minister noted. “Senior citizens must be provided the opportunity to live dignified, healthy, and secure lives. This is a national responsibility we must fulfill.”
In her remarks, the NSCC Director General expressed appreciation for the warm reception and affirmed her commitment to the Centre’s mandate of protecting and promoting the rights of senior citizens. She reiterated her resolve to ensure that older persons in Nigeria enjoy dignity, independence, care, participation, security, and self-fulfillment.
“I am here to formally inform you of my assumption of office and to assure you of my full dedication to the noble vision of the NSCC,” said Akinyemi-Obe. “With your support, and under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, we will continue to affirm the relevance of senior citizens as vital contributors to national development.”
She was accompanied on the visit by Alhaji Raji Ibrahim, North-Central Coordinator of the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), and Hon. Lanre Okunlola, Member of the House of Representatives representing Surulere 2 Federal Constituency.
The meeting underscores the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive social development, especially for vulnerable groups such as the aged, as it aligns with broader efforts to strengthen social protection mechanisms across the country.
