The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 471 junior staff as part of its 2025 staff promotion exercise, following the recommendation of the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC).
The decision was reached at the Commission’s weekly meeting held on Thursday, 25th September 2025, presided over by Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. The meeting also reviewed ongoing preparations for the Anambra State Governorship election, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, and the conduct of party primaries ahead of the Ekiti and Osun Governorship polls.
According to INEC, 515 staff were shortlisted for promotion, with 214 promoted to Grade Level 07, 134 to GL06, 106 to GL05, and 17 to GL04. This concludes the first phase of the exercise, which covers junior staff (GL03–06). The promotion of senior staff has already commenced.
INEC emphasized that staff promotion is a routine, merit-based exercise aimed at improving welfare and motivation within the Commission.
“The Commission remains committed to regular merit-based promotion and urges all staff to rededicate themselves to service, particularly in the discharge of electoral duties,” said Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
