The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted claims suggesting it has concluded the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency, emphasizing that no final decision has been reached.
In a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC clarified that the ongoing delineation exercise is in response to a Supreme Court judgment delivered on December 2, 2022. The court directed the commission to carry out ward delineation in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Local Government Areas.
INEC disclosed that it conducted extensive consultations and fieldwork across the affected areas from February 2023 to July 2024. A draft report of its findings was presented to stakeholders on Friday, April 4, 2025.
The Commission said the draft is intended to encourage dialogue and build consensus before any final decisions are made.
INEC urged stakeholders to review the draft report and provide their observations, while also warning against actions or misinformation that could threaten the peace of the region.
It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the process with fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
