Abuja, September 24, 2025 – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official commencement of campaigns for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election.

The statement reads: In accordance with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and Item 8 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities, political parties participating in the election may now begin electioneering campaigns from Wednesday, 24th September 2025, which will run until midnight on Thursday, 19th February 2026.
The Commission reminded political parties, candidates, and supporters of the provisions of Sections 92 and 93 of the Electoral Act, stressing that it is unlawful to employ abusive language, engage in physical attacks, or destroy campaign materials during rallies, meetings, or processions.
INEC further emphasized that all parties and candidates must have equal and unhindered access to public facilities for rallies, outdoor advertising, and media campaigns. Specifically, Section 95(2) of the Act prohibits the use of incumbency to confer undue advantage or disadvantage on any party or candidate.
The FCT Area Council election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 21st February 2026.
