In response to the recent surge in deadly attacks across Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the urgent deployment of tactical police units to the affected communities.
The directive follows a wave of coordinated assaults that began on March 28, 2025, in Bokkos Local Government Area and neighboring regions, resulting in significant loss of life and leaving many others injured.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP assigned the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to personally oversee the police response in Plateau State.
DIG Yakubu arrived in the state on Tuesday, April 8, and paid a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang. During the meeting, he conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the families of victims and reassured the government of the police force’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security.
As part of the intervention, additional tactical personnel have been deployed, alongside surveillance drones, helicopters, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), and specialized units from the Police Mobile Force and the Special Intervention Squad (SIS). These assets are to be strategically positioned in high-risk areas to deter further violence and respond swiftly to emergencies.
The IGP underscored a holistic approach to addressing the crisis, emphasizing collaboration with local authorities, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to tackle the root causes of the unrest.
The Nigeria Police Force also appealed to residents of Plateau State to cooperate with security personnel by providing timely and actionable intelligence to support ongoing operations and investigations.
“The Force remains fully committed to working with the Plateau State Government, security agencies, and local leaders to achieve lasting peace,” the statement concluded.
