Abuja, Nigeria – In a strategic move to clarify its leadership status and reinforce its commitment to democratic processes, a delegation of the Labour Party (LP) led by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Wednesday visited the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
The high-level delegation formally submitted a Certified True Copy of the recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the leadership of the party. The ruling is expected to put to rest months of internal disputes that have rocked the party following competing leadership claims.
Speaking to journalists after the closed-door meeting with INEC officials, Governor Otti described the visit as both symbolic and practical, aimed at ensuring that the electoral body is officially notified of the judicial resolution of the party’s leadership tussle.
“We came here to present the Supreme Court judgment to INEC and to strengthen collaboration,” Otti said. “We want to reaffirm our belief in the rule of law, institutional cooperation, and transparent democratic engagement.”

The visit was well received by the INEC leadership. The Acting Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Sam Olumekun, who welcomed the delegation alongside other National Commissioners, assured that the Commission would continue to operate within the bounds of the law.
“INEC remains neutral and committed to transparency and the rule of law. We have received the court’s judgment and will act accordingly in line with our mandate,” Olumekun stated.
The Labour Party has faced internal leadership wranglings in recent months, which prompted legal proceedings culminating in the recent Supreme Court judgment. Political observers say the verdict, coupled with the party’s outreach to INEC, signals a return to stability within the LP and positions it for more focused political activity ahead of future elections.
Wednesday’s engagement is also seen as a show of political maturity and institutional respect, as the party seeks to consolidate gains from the 2023 general elections and reassert itself as a formidable opposition force.
