Describing the gesture as an “act of uncommon compassion” and a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda, Mohammed said the donation will bring relief, dignity, and renewed confidence to the families of 22 Kano athletes who lost their lives in a fatal crash earlier this year.
“This is not just a donation; it is a lifeline,” the Corps Marshal said. “It sends a clear message from the Presidency that no Nigerian life is too small to protect, and no family’s pain is too insignificant to address. It aligns with the 5th Pillar of the United Nations Decade of Action on Post-Crash Care.”
Reaffirming FRSC’s commitment to reducing crashes to the barest minimum, Mohammed assured that the Corps will continue to provide prompt support to victims and their families.
Meanwhile, in a decisive move to tackle rising road accidents in Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has signed an Executive Order mandating aggressive enforcement of all traffic regulations, with special focus on compliance with traffic lights in Kano metropolis.
The Governor directed FRSC and the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) to work in close partnership to ensure full adherence to the Order, stressing that synergy, strict enforcement, and proactive public education are key to saving lives on Nigerian roads.
Reacting to the directive, the Corps Marshal pledged to strengthen inter-agency cooperation, deploy additional road safety personnel to high-risk areas, and intensify nationwide enlightenment campaigns. He also issued a stern warning to motorists in Kano:
“Any driver caught violating traffic laws—particularly running red lights—will face the full weight of the law. Reckless driving will no longer be tolerated.”
Mohammed called on corporate organisations, state governments, and well-meaning Nigerians to support law enforcement agencies, noting that road safety is a shared responsibility.
