The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has apprehended 563 motorists across Nigeria for attempting to bribe patrol officers during enforcement operations in July 2025.
According to a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the arrests mark a major stride in the FRSC’s anti-corruption campaign aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and discipline on the nation’s highways.
Osun State recorded the highest number of offenders, with 155 motorists caught trying to compromise marshals on duty. The Corps described the outcome as proof of its unwavering resolve to uphold integrity, not only through strict enforcement of traffic laws but also by stamping out corrupt practices that threaten public safety.
Commending the Osun Sector Command, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed singled out Assistant Route Commander Babatunde J. Owoeye for his exceptional vigilance, noting that he was responsible for 104 of the total anti-corruption bookings.
“ARC Owoeye’s dedication reflects the ethical standard the FRSC strives to uphold. We will not tolerate any breach of integrity, whether from road users or our own officers,” Mohammed stated.
He further warned that any attempt to bribe or compromise patrol teams would be treated as a criminal offence, adding that the Corps is deploying targeted enforcement, performance tracking, and value-based reorientation to strengthen public trust.
The FRSC reminded motorists that offering bribes is a criminal act under Nigerian law and urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations and respect safety officials.
“Our goal remains a safe motoring environment free of corruption and lawlessness,” the Corps Marshal affirmed. “We will continue to support officers who demonstrate courage and discipline when faced with unethical inducement.”
