…First African Underground Tunnel to Begin Soon
The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGOF), Surv. Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, has reaffirmed that the Federal Government’s blueprint to comprehensively map Nigeria is firmly on course under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This was contained in a statement Signed by Henry David Head, Information and Public Relations Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) Abuja Branch, Adebomehin stressed that attempts to challenge the movement of the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF) to the Presidency amount to contesting a presidential directive.
“The last time Nigeria was mapped was in the 1970s. When I briefed His Excellency President Tinubu, he showed strong interest and gave full support. This is the first time we will have real, modern surveying in Nigeria, and no one can challenge a presidential order,” Adebomehin said.
Highlighting ongoing national infrastructure projects, the Surveyor General disclosed that the Federal Government is set to construct the first underground tunnel in Africa, running from Victoria Island to Badagry, Lagos State. He noted that his office had already undertaken an inspection tour of the coastal bridge project alongside the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi.

Adebomehin explained that OSGOF’s elevation to the Presidency would unlock its full potential, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and give the surveying profession more visibility and impact. “With improved funding and faster decision-making, we can better harness the opportunities within the surveying sector for national development,” he stated.
In his remarks, Surv. Robert Coker, Head of Hydrography at OSGOF, emphasized that opposing the office’s relocation to the Presidency was equivalent to “fighting a presidential order,” urging professionals to safeguard the integrity of the profession by mentoring young surveyors.
Also speaking, Surv. Alfred Adeojo, Secretary of NIS FCT Branch, praised Adebomehin’s boldness, noting that the development signaled brighter prospects for the profession. “It took courage to achieve this move, and we, the younger generation, will emulate his example,” he said.
