The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the Next Moonshot Initiative, marking the official opening of the application portal for the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG)—a pioneering national programme designed to turn student-led innovations into high-growth, commercially viable enterprises.

Announcing the initiative in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Tunji Alausa, FAMedS, CON, said the programme is a central component of the Renewed Hope Agenda and represents a bold commitment to nurturing a new generation of Nigerian innovators.

According to the Minister, the President has challenged Nigeria’s tertiary institutions to “produce the next moonshot,” emphasizing the need to identify and support exceptional student founders who could build future Nigerian unicorns.

“This is not just funding; it is an equity-free investment in Nigeria’s future,” he stressed.

₦50 Million Equity-Free Funding for Student Innovators

The S-VCG provides up to ₦50 million in equity-free seed grants to student entrepreneurs developing solutions in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM).
The programme targets innovations with clear potential for scale, commercialization, and national or global impact.

Successful applicants will gain entry into a robust support ecosystem that offers:

Intensive incubation and acceleration programmes

Mentorship from seasoned founders and industry experts

Access to tools, platforms, and technical resources needed for product development and scaling

This structure is designed to ensure that funded ventures evolve from early ideas into market-ready enterprises.

Google Partnership to Strengthen Evaluation Through AI

To enhance transparency, efficiency, and global competitiveness, the Ministry announced a strategic partnership with Google.
Through this collaboration, Google’s Gemini AI will power advanced evaluation agents integrated into the S-VCG portal, ensuring a fair and intelligent review of all applications.

Every student who completes a valid submission will also receive:

A one-year free Google Gemini Pro license

Premium innovation and entrepreneurship learning resources

The Ministry said this partnership is aimed at equipping Nigerian students with world-class tools that will strengthen their entrepreneurial journey “from idea to market domination.”

Applications Now Open Nationwide

The Ministry invites all eligible students enrolled in accredited Nigerian tertiary institutions to apply for this unprecedented opportunity.

The official application portal is now live at:

Applicants are encouraged to submit well-developed proposals demonstrating innovation, scalability, market relevance, and the capacity to address pressing national or global challenges.
