📍Abuja, Nigeria
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed as false a viral video claiming that terrorists are advancing toward Nigeria’s capital, with alleged gunfire within the city.

In an official statement released on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, described the video as misleading and deliberately designed to incite fear among residents.

Adeh disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, was alerted to the circulation of the footage and immediately directed a preliminary investigation.

According to the Command, there has been no record of any terrorist attack or security breach in Abuja or any part of the FCT. Initial findings further revealed that the gunfire sounds in the video were digitally manipulated and sourced from unrelated material.

“The footage depicts an unidentified location with buildings under construction and has no verifiable connection to Abuja,” the statement clarified.

In response, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive forensic analysis to trace the origin of the video and identify those responsible for its creation and dissemination.

The Command also warned content creators and social media users against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and public disorder, stressing that violators would be prosecuted under relevant laws.

Residents have been urged to disregard the video and rely only on credible and official sources for information, as the Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safety and maintaining public confidence across the FCT.
