The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, and peaceful governorship election in Anambra State on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, said all logistics and stakeholder consultations had been concluded to ensure a seamless electoral exercise.

He disclosed that the Commission’s preparations included extensive engagements with political actors, security agencies, and civil society groups across Anambra State.

“Our mission is clear to ensure that every vote counts, that the will of the people prevails, and that the electoral process remains peaceful and credible,” Amupitan stated.

The INEC Chairman highlighted the Commission’s recent three-day tour of Anambra State, which featured the signing of a Peace Accord facilitated by the National Peace Committee, a high-level security meeting, and a stakeholders’ forum held on Tuesday, November 4.

Professor Amupitan stressed that peace was not just a signed document but a shared commitment to its principles.

“Without peace, our logistics will collapse, our personnel and materials will be endangered, and the credibility of the election will be compromised,” he warned.

He commended the National Peace Committee for its unwavering efforts in fostering peaceful elections nationwide, while also expressing concern over voter apathy in previous Anambra polls.

“Voter apathy remains the greatest enemy of democracy. We urge all registered voters to come out and make their voices heard through the ballot,” he said.

The INEC boss reminded political parties and stakeholders of the Commission’s operational timelines, noting that post-election activities involving agents and observers would conclude on December 15, 2025.

Amupitan appealed to the people of Anambra State to participate peacefully and confidently in the forthcoming election, assuring them of adequate security and transparency throughout the process.

“You have collected your PVCs. Security agencies are fully deployed to protect you. INEC is ready. So, come out on Saturday, November 8 vote freely, vote peacefully, and vote proudly,” he urged.

He concluded with optimism that, by the grace of God and the courage of the Anambra electorate, the 2025 governorship election would be a true reflection of the people’s will and a milestone for Nigeria’s democracy.
