The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has underscored the strategic importance of educating military and police officers’ children, linking it directly to national security and operational effectiveness.
Speaking during the groundbreaking and fundraising ceremony of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) College in Abuja, General Musa emphasized that quality education for military families boosts morale and enhances the performance of Nigeria’s security personnel.
“Our duty to defend the nation often keeps us away from home,” he said. “DEPOWA College will provide our children with a stable, secure, and excellent learning environment. This brings peace of mind to our officers and contributes to national stability.”
General Musa praised DEPOWA for its continuous support of military families, empowerment of widows, and promotion of education. He described the college project as a transformational legacy that will instill knowledge, discipline, and character in future generations.
“This is more than a school; it’s a symbol of hope and strength. Education remains our strongest weapon for building a safer Nigeria,” he added.
The Defence Chief called on individuals, corporate bodies, and development partners to support the initiative, stressing that every donation is an investment in national peace and progress.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his backing of the Armed Forces and thanked First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her consistent advocacy for women and children. Additionally, he commended DEPOWA President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, for leading the charge on the college initiative.
“The education and wellbeing of our families are key to our mission readiness. The Armed Forces will continue to support projects that enhance the welfare of personnel and their loved ones,” he concluded.
