
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has described Nigerian youth as the nation’s most valuable resource for driving progress in education, healthcare, and economic development. He made this known during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu, and his delegation to the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement issued by Boriowo Folasade Director Press and PR Federal Ministry of Education stating that Dr. Alausa suggested several key initiatives, including the Teacher’s Call to engage NCE holders as temporary teachers in underserved areas; the Rural Health Corps for deploying medically trained corps members to rural communities; and a reform of the NYSC orientation programme to include vocational, entrepreneurial, agricultural, and ICT training.
The Honourable Minister proposed extending the service year beyond 12 months to allow youth more time for skill development, enhancing employability and national contribution.
He reaffirmed his belief in Nigerian youth as the greatest asset for advancing education and economic growth.
The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad, praised NYSC’s role in maintaining academic standards, especially amid transnational education concerns.
Permanent Secretary Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan lauded the shared vision between the Ministry and NYSC.
Brigadier General Nafiu thanked the Ministry for its support and highlighted reforms including a pre-departure database to combat certificate fraud.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to youth-driven transformation.
