The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging poor welfare conditions for Nigerian troops in various operational theatres across the country.
Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the Director of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General Markus Kangye, described the claims as “false, untrue, and unsubstantiated.” He emphasized that the Nigerian Armed Forces prioritize the welfare of their personnel, ensuring they receive proper care and support.
According to Kangye, military leadership remains deeply committed to the well-being of its troops. He cited instances where the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff personally celebrated festive occasions with soldiers on the frontline, reinforcing their dedication to the troops’ morale. Additionally, he highlighted ongoing welfare initiatives, including the provision of housing for personnel.
Drawing from his own experience as Artillery Corps Commander, Kangye recounted personal sacrifices made to boost troop morale, such as visiting soldiers in hospitals and ensuring theatre commanders felt supported during festive seasons like Salah and Christmas.
The DDMO also paid tribute to the bravery and dedication of Nigerian troops, particularly for maintaining national security during recent celebrations. He reassured them that their sacrifices would not go unrecognized, reaffirming the military’s unwavering commitment to their welfare.
