Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has paid tribute to activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore on the occasion of his 55th birthday, describing him as a steadfast advocate for the vulnerable and a consistent voice for accountability in Nigeria.
In a statement marking the milestone, Adeyanju commended Sowore’s long-standing role in challenging injustice and speaking against abuse of power, despite personal risks.
He noted that in a country where activism often comes with significant consequences, Sowore has repeatedly chosen principle over comfort.
Adeyanju referenced the arrests, detentions and legal battles Sowore has faced over the years, describing them as sacrifices made in pursuit of reform and justice.

According to him, Sowore’s journey reflects resilience and a sustained commitment to defending the oppressed and demanding transparency from those in authority.
Sowore, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s civic and political space, has been widely known for his advocacy work and public campaigns centred on governance and human rights.
Adeyanju concluded by wishing him well and expressing hope that his efforts toward social reform would continue to inspire broader civic engagement.
