Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Honoured by DICAN During Courtesy Visit
The Minister of Defense, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on 9th September 2025, received the National Executive Council of the Defense Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) during a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Defense Headquarters, Abuja.
The visit provided a platform to strengthen collaboration between the Defense Ministry and the media, especially journalists on the defense and security beat

Welcoming the delegation, the Minister commended DICAN for its consistent and professional reportage of military operations and the diplomatic community. He underscored the vital role of the media in shaping public perception, boosting national morale, and promoting transparency in defense matters.
“National security is a collective responsibility. As journalists covering the diplomatic community, your work can either strengthen public trust or create unnecessary fear. We count on DICAN to continue exercising professionalism in projecting the sacrifices of our Armed Forces,” the Minister stated.
In recognition of his contributions to defense reforms and his support for media engagement, the DICAN Chairman, Fred Idehai, presented an Award of Excellence to the Minister. The gesture symbolized appreciation for his efforts in fostering an open channel of communication with journalists covering the security sector.
Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Idehai expressed gratitude to the Minister for granting audience to the association and reaffirmed the commitment of defense correspondents to balanced and factual reporting. He explained that the visit and award presentation were aimed at deepening trust and encouraging stronger institutional support for the media’s role in national security.

The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs, group photographs, and renewed commitment to building a transparent, accountable, and collaborative framework between the Defense Ministry and the media.
