The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has called on the people of Anambra State to reject the ideologies of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), warning that their activities threaten national unity and progress.
General Musa, who was represented by Group Captain Ibrahim Bukar, made this appeal during a peace and diplomacy campaign tour to Anambra, where he was received by the Eze-Igulube of Omor, Obi Eze Ana-Ukwu, at his palace on Thursday.
He cautioned residents against promoting or sharing IPOB and ESN-related content, including on social media, stressing that such actions amount to indirect participation in the groups’ agenda.
“When you share IPOB or ESN activities on your platform and forward them to others, you are no different from being a part of them,” he said.
The CDS emphasized the importance of fostering peace, unity, and development in the region rather than supporting movements that aim to destabilize the country.
He further noted that misinformation and disinformation are major challenges affecting military operations, urging the public to be vigilant and to assist security agencies with credible intelligence.
“We urge you to provide actionable information. When you see something, say something. That is how we can tackle insecurity together and restore peace in our communities,” he added.
In his response, Obi Eze Ana-Ukwu lauded the military’s efforts in restoring peace and maintaining security in the region. He expressed gratitude for their commitment and sacrifices.
“The presence of military personnel has brought a sense of relief to our people. We deeply appreciate their dedication and bravery,” the monarch said.
He also pledged the community’s continued cooperation with the Armed Forces, emphasizing that Omor is a peaceful, agrarian society committed to supporting security efforts.
“Our people are peace-loving and accommodating. We are ready to provide credible information to aid security operations,” he added.
Also speaking, Colonel A.K. Muhammad, Commandant of the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Onitsha, and Sector 5 Commander of Operation UDO KA, commended the community and its traditional ruler for their unwavering support to the Nigerian military.
“We appreciate the monarch and the entire Omor community for their support in our efforts to tackle insecurity in Anambra,” he said.
Colonel Muhammad reaffirmed the military’s impartiality and commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
