The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed the Nigerian military’s commitment to ending the persistent violence in Plateau State and other areas under Operation Safe Haven.
Speaking during an operational visit to the Headquarters of Operation Safe Haven in Jos on Friday, August 1, 2025, General Musa vowed that the armed forces would adopt more decisive and adaptive strategies to combat the growing threats posed by asymmetric attacks on communities in the region.
“We must take decisive actions to halt the cycle of violence affecting Plateau and neighboring states experiencing similar challenges,” General Musa declared, adding that the military is reassessing its operational approach to respond more effectively to the evolving nature of the conflict.

He called on community leaders and residents to collaborate closely with the military by identifying and isolating criminal elements within their communities. “This is not the sole responsibility of the military. We need community participation if we are to achieve lasting peace,” he emphasized.
General Musa also issued a stern directive to commanders under Operation Safe Haven, warning that any officer found neglecting their duties would be held accountable. “The protection of lives and property must remain our top priority,” he said.
To enhance field operations, the CDS pledged increased logistical and operational support to troops on the frontlines. He also stressed the need for renewed commitment and discipline among personnel.
In his briefing, Major General Eyitayo Folusho Oyinlola, Commander of Operation Safe Haven and General Officer Commanding 3 Division, acknowledged the complex security challenges but noted several operational gains. He highlighted strengthened inter-agency collaboration and the adoption of intelligence-driven responses to criminal activity.
“Despite the setbacks, we are committed to sustaining our momentum and ensuring visible signs of peace and stability across our areas of operation,” Oyinlola assured.
As part of his visit, General Musa also toured the Nigerian Army Medical Centre at Tigi and Sector 6 in Jebbu Bindi, Riyom Local Government Area. He pledged additional resources to upgrade the medical facility and improve healthcare services for both military personnel and surrounding communities.

While addressing troops in Jebbu Bindi, the CDS urged them to remain vigilant and fully committed to their responsibilities. He underscored the importance of building strong ties with local residents to foster trust and enhance peace-building efforts.
The visit reflects the military’s renewed resolve to strengthen operational capacity and deepen community engagement in its ongoing fight against insecurity across the region.
