
Abuja, 19 March 2025 – The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, received the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Fall, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

According to the statement, during the meeting, General Musa reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to supporting UN-led peacekeeping operations, emphasizing Nigeria’s dedication to global peace and security. He also called on the UN to strengthen its collaboration with state governments to facilitate the safe return of refugees to their respective communities.

The CDS underscored the importance of civil-military relations, noting that non-kinetic approaches to operations have proven to be more impactful in addressing security challenges. He congratulated the United Nations on its 80th anniversary and reaffirmed Nigeria’s steadfast support for its initiatives.
In his remarks, Mr. Fall acknowledged the long-standing and beneficial relationship between the UN and the Nigerian military. He commended the AFN for being one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions and called for enhanced international support to ensure regional stability.
Furthermore, Mr. Fall lauded the AFN’s efforts in maintaining peace across Africa and beyond, describing Nigeria as a key enabler of UN operations. He emphasized the need for increased global engagement and support for Nigeria’s military, recognizing the country’s strategic role in Africa due to its demographic strength and leadership position on the continent.
The UN delegation included Mr. Trod Jensien, Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
