The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the Nigerian military’s commitment to ending the protracted insurgency in the North-East region through a renewed offensive and the deployment of enhanced combat platforms.
General Musa made this bold declaration during his operational visit to the Headquarters of the Theatre Command Joint Task Force (JTF) North-East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri on Thursday, May 15, 2025. He emphasized the military’s strategic plan to bolster ongoing operations with additional platforms and combat enablers to accelerate the fight against Boko Haram and other terrorist elements.
The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, conveyed the CDS’s pledge in a press statement released Friday morning.
Addressing the troops, General Musa charged them to remain “aggressive and unrelenting” in confronting the insurgents, stressing that the nation sees the military as its last line of defense. “The nation is counting on us as its last hope,” he declared, urging soldiers to sustain the momentum and intensify their efforts.
During his visit, the CDS received a detailed briefing from the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, on recent operational developments and strategies being deployed in the region. Major General Abubakar expressed gratitude for the CDS’s visit, describing it as a testament to the priority given to Operation HADIN KAI under the current defense leadership.
Before his arrival at the Theatre Headquarters, General Musa made a stop at the scene of a recent explosion at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri. There, he received firsthand updates from Brigadier General Abdul-Razak Kazeem, Commander of the 47 Engineers Brigade.
The CDS commended the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team for their swift and professional response in securing the affected area, urging them to maintain their discipline and commitment to duty. He assured them of continuous support to enhance their critical operations.
General Musa was accompanied on the visit by senior officers from both the Defence and Services Headquarters, highlighting the spirit of unity and collaboration as the military ramps up its counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East.
