The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has applauded the judgment delivered by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland, which sentenced Simon Ekpa to six years imprisonment for terrorism-related offences.
This was contained in a statement signed by Tukur Gusau, Brigadier General, Director, Defense Information on 1st September 2025
According to the statement, General Musa described the ruling as a landmark victory in the global war against terrorism and violent extremism, stressing that the conviction sends a clear message that those who incite violence or sponsor terrorism will be held accountable, irrespective of their location.
“This judgment sends a strong signal that there is no safe haven for individuals or groups who encourage or finance acts of terror against Nigeria or any sovereign state,” he stated. “The Armed Forces of Nigeria commend the Finnish authorities for their commitment to justice.”
The CDS further expressed appreciation to Nigerian security agencies, intelligence operatives, law enforcement bodies, and diplomats for their tireless collaboration in providing actionable evidence that facilitated Ekpa’s conviction. He noted that the outcome underscores the importance of international partnerships in tackling transnational threats.
Reaffirming the Armed Forces’ dedication to dismantling terrorist networks, General Musa assured that Nigeria will continue to work closely with global partners to ensure lasting peace and security. He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and support security agencies in the ongoing fight against insurgency and separatist violence.
